Resolutions Passed in the General Body Meeting held on 29-12-2011
  • The apex body of teacher education in the country i.e. NCTE should be strengthened with core academic faculty. It should be manned by academicians of Teacher education.
  • The age of the Chairman, NCTE and the Director, NCERT should be enhanced to 70 years as in the case of Vice-Chancellors of Central Universities so as to have a wider choice.
  • The academic faculty of NCERT should be treated at par with the UGC approved University positions and consequently their age of retirement should be raised to 65 years.All the teacher education programmes irrespective of stage and type should be brought under the umbrella of University System to combat the problem of isolation, raise the quality and standard of teacher education in the country. The government should take steps to establish Universities of Teacher Education.
  • Exploitation of teacher educators of self financed institutions should be stopped. Their salary structure and working conditions should be at par with their counterparts in government and government aided teacher education institutions.
  • The concrete measures should be taken to gradually switch over to 5 years Integrated Model for imparting pre-service teacher education after +2. The caution must be taken that the programmes do not take the shape of dual degree programmes.
  • Stage specific separate cadre of teacher educators should be created in states.
